Colin Eldridge, Parliamentary Candidate for Liverpool Wavertree was celebrating with his fellow Councillors today as Council Tax bills have been frozen for the year.

Liberal Democrat councillors voted in favour of spending half a million pounds on road resurfacing, but also cut chief officer's pay by £250,000.Vitally, there were no job losses or cuts to services. The flag-ship Lib Dem council also can boast to be the most improved council in the country.

The news has brought much relief to people in Liverpool who have been coping with the current recession.

People in Liverpool had previously experienced only a 1% increase in council tax per annum.

Rachel Oelbaum, a local resident in Allerton said "The Liberal Democrats have kept their promise to stand up for local people and help them through these difficult times"

Colin said "Under Labour, we were paying the highest taxes for the worst services. Our budget has also protected front line facilities. This is great news for local people. The Liberal Democrats have cut waste and inefficiency to help the hard-working people of this city".
